9th May- Victory Day celebration in Russia: Why this day is so special in Russia(USSR)?
May 9 is celebrated in Russia as one of the biggest official public holiday. I would like to tell you about this holiday, and why is it highly valued in Russia.
On September 1st, 1939, Germany occupied the territory of the Poland. And the Second World War started. The Nazi Germany and their leader, Adolf Hitler in a short time occupied almost all of Europe.
On June 22, 1941 without a declaration of war, Germany attacked the Soviet Union (USSR). The war continued (lasted) for 4 years! During this time, millions of people died and thousands of towns and villages were annihilated. But the Soviet people lead, by Joseph Stalin won the Nazists and fascists. Hitler could not take over the world. On second May 1945 the Soviet Army conquered Berlin.
May 9, 1945 in the presence of representatives from the Soviet Union, Great Britain, USA and France, the German High Command signed an act of unconditional surrender.
From that day on May 9th people around the world began to celebrate Victory Day. This year the world celebrates the 73 anniversary of Victory Day. In anticipation of that day, I wish you all good health, happiness and peaceful sky over the head and well-being in your homes!
